Is it time yet? Not quite—but soon! You’ve all been waiting for the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary special, and it is nearly upon us! To get us amped and ready to welcome the Doctor back into our lives, the BBC has been releasing interviews, clips, and old episodes all leading up to Saturday’s simultaneously broadcasted episode. This means that, while it may air in London at 7:30 PM, the US’s west coast will be watching it at 11:30AM.

It’s not wibbly wobbly timey whimey, it’s just time difference.

In the anniversary special, we will get to see David Tennant (our beloved tenth Doctor) play the role alongside Matt Smith and John Hurt. But, while we may love him in his Converse and neckties, Tennant can also rock a crown!

Entertainment Weekly released an exclusive video of Tennant donning said crown in a stage production of Richard II. Tennant is a long-time Shakespearian actor, and has even starred in a production of Much Ado About Nothing alongside Donna Noble actress, Catherine Tate.

Tennant is joining the Royal Shakespeare Company’s cinema team as they release a film series entitled “Live from Stratford-Upon-Avon.” The series will contain four films of various Shakespearian plays filmed all over the globe.

Gregory Doran, who is the director as well as the artistic director for the project, gushed about his and others roles in the production: “We are thrilled to be bringing the work we make in Stratford-Upon-Avon to the widest possible audience. Through a brand-new partnership with Picturehouse Entertainment, who have a great track record in screening the arts live, we can share the RSC’s contemporary interpretations of our house playwright across the U.K. and around the world, direct from Shakespeare’s home town.”

London is currently hosting Richard II until January 25, 2014. But Entertainment Weekly has given us a special five-minute clip from the play! The production in its entirety will be screened in the US between December 3, 2013 and January 2, 2014. In the clip, we see Tennant putting his own spin on the Bard’s “God save the King” speech.
