The name Tim Rose might not be that familiar to you, however if you have ever seen anything with Muppets, The Dark Crystal, Star Wars or Doctor Who you have probably seen his work. Tim Rose is world renowned puppeteer and the man behind the mask of Admiral Akbar from Star Wars who uttered the famous line “It’s A Trap”
In the first half of the interview we talk all things Star Wars. How it worked, and how we would run his hands up Princess Leia thigh…wait what?!
In the second half, we talk about what it was like working with Jim Henson and how puppeteering has changed with the introduction of CGI. He talks about “the Magic Moment” in puppeteering and so I put him to the test with some puppets of my own.
After the cameras stopped rolling, Tim and I kept talking for about half an hour just on all things puppets and then we went out to lunch and talk about life and other projects he worked on such as the BBC’s Wizards Vs Aliens and Doctor Who, weddings and boating, and general things to do in Australia. He is such an amazing person and I hope next time he comes to Perth we can hang out!
