Harry Potter fans are still reeling from the news that Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is being made into a movie.  However, executive producer David Heyman has been quick to point out that the new movie is NOT the ninth Harry Potter movie.

In an interview with Coming Soon, Heyman said of the new movie, the screenplay of which is being written by JK Rowling; “It’s not Harry Potter per se, but the world of Harry. She’s chosen to do so because she felt a need to tell a story. That she’s doing it means that it’s going to be very, very special.”

The storyline of the new movie is based on the 42 page book which JK Rowling wrote back in 2001 to raise money for British charity Comic Relief.  It is set 70 years before the Harry Potter stories and tells of the adventures of Newt Scamander.  David Heyman also said in the interview that there isn’t much he can say about the movie yet. “I can’t talk really about it yet. All I can say is that it’s great. Jo had no need to go back to this universe or world,”

Even though we will not see Harry and his friends, Potter fans around the world are pleased that we will get to see another part of the wizarding world that JK Rowling has so lovingly created.  No release date has been given for Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them and no casting announcements have been made.

Stay tuned and we will announce any information as it is released.
