YouTube has become one of the most popular platforms for members of the LGBT community to come out of the closet. For a variety of people, including just average people and celebrities like Tom Daley, using the popular video hosting site to reveal their sexuality has helped other closeted people come to terms with their own sexuality and gain the courage to come out themselves. But few have had the effect on Ben Hobson’s coming out video.
Hobson posted the video in February of this year, claiming that he married his wife five years before and had two children. However, this perfect family was disrupted by Ben’s continuous drinking problem. At the beginning of this year, he realized he had to stop, and after a month of being sober, he realized he was gay and came out to his wife, family and the entire Internet.
In the last few months, Ben has posted actively on his YouTube channel. Earlier this month, he gave a recap of his life in the last few months, talking about how his wife moved across the country, taking their children with her, and how he went to live nearby. He now sells clothes at the mall and sees his children every week when he has days off.
