“No one else can do this but her,” says a somber Phillip Seymour Hoffman. That is how the final trailer for Mockingjay Part 1 begins, and what follows is not lacking in action, of that you can be sure.
This trailer really seems to hone in on the carnage that takes place in the final installation of Suzanne Collins’ epic, dystopian trilogy. Katniss witnesses destruction and death at every turn, and even generates some of her own.
Another thing I noticed is that they really focus on the dialogue that has been extracted directly from the novel. Or maybe I was just focusing on it? Either way, from Plutarch’s first line ensuring Coin that their Mockingjay is indeed the right fit for the job, to the last bit of dialogue in the trailer, the heroism is really apparent.
The most heartbreaking part of the clip? When Peeta breaks through the brainwashing and warns that, “They’re coming Katniss, they’re going to kill everyone. You’ll be dead by morning.” With tears streaming down both of their faces, it shot me right back to that chapter in the book.
