What started out as a liquor store heist quickly turns into a confessional in Hold Up Heart, the newest short film from director Justin Zsebe and writer/producer Edward Kiniry-Ostro.
Kiniry-Ostro (HIMYM, It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia) plays Jeff, the first person in the film to start waving a gun around. All he wants is to find his courage so he can rob a liquor store, but not for the reasons you think. Yes, there’s a girl–but there’s always a girl.
This girl happens to be Lo, played by Trisha LaFache (Law and Order, SVU, Criminal Intent), who starts the movie by giving Jeff a colorful pep talk before sending him into the store with a ski mask and a gun. But neither of them expect Jeff’s ex-girlfriend, Wendy (Rachel Germaine, Weeds) to be (wo)manning the cash register.
The two quickly fall back on old quarrels, with a poor innocent bystander (Peter McCain, Moving Numbers) ending up in the unfortunate vicinity of one of Jeff’s bullets.
Joined by their former friend Nigel (David L. Murphy), who attempts to calm everyone down, this short film is very entertaining. Feelings and tensions run high, and no one knows who to trust when the bullets start to fly.
But who’s keeping an eye on the getaway car?
