Epic Records went forward with the idea of a holiday compilation album this year, titled I’ll Be Home For Christmas. The 7-track EP consists of 1 original tune and 6 covers of festive classics, with one of the latter being Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You.”
The ones behind the microphones for the fresh rendition of the track are the ladies of Fifth Harmony. The girlband rose to fame thanks to The X Factor USA and later amazed with their debut EP, and currently working on their debut album. Thankfully, the ladies don’t take it far from the original with “All I Want For Christmas Is You” and even though there’s no touching Mariah’s classic version, they’re doing the song justice with their cover. Their amazing voices and the switching of verses definitely helps, while the notes are all perfectly on point.
The new version of “All I Want For Christmas Is You” by Fifth Harmony arrives just in time before Mariah Carey celebrates its 20th anniversary next month. Other contributions to the album include covers from Meghan Trainor, Fiona Apple, Tamar Braxton, Sara Bareilles, A Great Big World and Ingrid Michaelson. The only original tune is found in the sounds of the “All About That Bass” songstress’ “I’ll Be Home.”
