Fans of the hit book series, Fifty Shades of Grey, have been anxiously waiting to hear who the two lucky stars would be to be cast as Christian and Anastasia.

Following the announcements on Monday that the title roles would be played by Charlie Hunnam and Dakota Johnson, the internet has been set ablaze with fan reactions; both good and bad, but swaying more towards disappointment in the casting results.

A petition on Change.org that urges producers to recast the roles has already received over 20,000 signatures. The petition names Matt Bomer and Alexis Bledel as the ideal choices after much speculation leading up to the announcement, many fans deemed the duo as “perfect” for the roles.

Fans took the internet via forums, facebook and twitter to show the support for, or against the casting decisions.

“Such a disappointment. If EL James hadn’t put so much emphasis on their physical appearances this wouldn’t matter so much, but Dakota looks too old, too tall, too model-like, doesn’t even have boobs or a pretty face or big eyes. Charlie looks like Elliot but not at all Christian Grey. I’m more upset over the choice for Ana though. They could’ve done so much better. I don’t even understand.” –

Not all feedback was against the casting of Charlie and Dakota, some fans showed their support of the two and voiced their opinions just as clearly.

“Dakota Johnson – perfect. Just how I saw Anastasia.” –

Queer as Folk was amazing, I’m genuinely happy he’s getting this kind of fame. He’s definitely put the graft in.” –

Whether or not you agree, or even care for that matter, the votes are in and it appears this is the end of the line. Next year, will Charlie and Dakota be able to sway the haters back into the bedchamber or will the backlash continue?

In closing, a note from the author of all this hullaballoo:

To all the supporters, lovers and haters – thank you so much for the passion that you have for this project. You all rock. All of you.
