It looks like our favourite Brit and our favourite iconic movie have come together to provide what might possibly be THE musical theatre experience of this year. Doctor Who’s very own Matt Smith has taken the stage as Patrick Bateman in the West End’s musical adaptation of American Pyscho, and thanks to DigitalSpy we have the pictures to prove it.
While all us Whovians are sad Smith is saying goodbye to his role as The Doctor on BBC’s Doctor Who, we are ecstatic about his new role as the investment banker turned serial killer in the musical. The show is based on the 1991 Brett Easton Ellis novel of the same name.
Matt Smith takes the stage as Patrick Bateman with his costars Ben Aldridge, Charlie Anson, Jonathan Bailey, Hugh Skinner and more. Christian Bale notably made the role of Bateman famous in the 2000 movie adaptation in which he starred alongside Reese Witherspoon, Chloë Sevigny and Willem Defoe.
The book has been adapted for the stage by Roberto Aguirre Sacasa (Glee) and is directed by Rupert Goold. Duncan Sheik, the mind behind Spring Awakening, has created the music and lyrics for the play.
American Psycho the Musical will is slated to open at the Almeida Theatre on Thursday. The run is scheduled to come to a close on January 25, 2014.
