The first couple photos of The Scorch Trials have arrived and let me tell you, it looks like things are going to get a hell of a lot more intense than they did in The Maze Runner. Thomas (Dylan O’Brien) and his band of Glaiders have escaped the maze, however it’s time for them to face the outside world. A world that is a lot different than the one they were taken from.
The Scorch Trials will pick up right where The Maze Runner left off and will focus on the repercussions of the core group’s survival of the maze. If these teens thought the maze was bad, then the new world will certainly be an unwelcome surprise to them. The ending of The Maze Runner revealed that the individuals in the maze were placed there by the corporation WCKD after a solar flare damaged the planet. WCKD’s end goal, though still a little murky, was ultimately to train these young amnesiac teenagers for the devastating outside world. The Scorch Trials is certain to be a wild ride since it will introduce Cranks, who are infected human beings. Wes Ball, who returned as the director for The Scorch Trials, commented, “We don’t want to call them zombies, but they fit into that category. They’re not undead, but they are rage-filled.”
