First Trailer For Lifetime Biopic ‘Aaliyah: The Princess Of R&B’

After much controversy, the Aaliyah biopic is full steam ahead and the first trailer, starring Alexandra Shipp is here.

Aaliyah was the princess of R&B, when titles still used to matter in the music industry. Thirteen years after her tragic death, Lifetime is premiering a television-only biopic film about the late songstress, despite the backlash. The movie, titled Aaliyah: The Princess Of R&B just got its first trailer unveiled.

The trailer for the upcoming Wendy Williams-executive produced biopic gives us a closer look at Alexandra Shipp in the role of the late diva. In the short clip, she’s seen doing the songstress’ thing, dancing things up in full performance mode. Furthermore, we get a glimpse of how the people around her, from her mother to her collaborators, saw how special she is and praised her talents.

The music accompanying the half-minute-long clip is not Aaliyah’s, as the network failed to get license to use her tunes. Instead, the song used is iggy Azalea’s “Goddess”, off her debut studio album, The New Classic. It’s a shame, ’cause it would have been really nice to hear the songbird’s voice in her own biopic. Nonetheless, Iggy’s tune is appropriate, to say the least, since Aaliyah was indeed a grandiose and glorious artist.

Aaliyah: The Princess Of R&B will premiere on November 15 at 8 p.m., only on Lifetime. Until then, take a look at the trailer below.
