NBC’s The Biggest Loser has its first celebrity contestant. American Idol season 2 winner Ruben Studdard has signed up to take part in Season 15 of the popular weight loss show.
Studdard, known as the ‘Velvet Teddy Bear’, has spoken publicly of his weight loss battle in the past. In an interview with People, the singer said that a previous weight loss attempt had made him “sick” and “exhausted”. However, he has decided that he is giving his weight loss attempt another try, this time with the help of trainers Bob Harper and Jillian Michaels.
“I’ve never had an issue with my weight. [But] my family has a history of high blood pressure, diabetes, heart-related issues – things I didn’t have to deal with yet because I’m young. But I don’t want to be worried at 40, and if I don’t fix things now, I will be.”
The Biggest Loser returns to NBC this fall.
