Glee has a big job on their hands right now: how to handle the passing of one of their biggest stars.
Glee creator Ryan Murphy told us there would be a tribute episode to Cory who died of toxic overdose last month at age 31, but now FOX has released a statement as to what we can expect from that episode.
Even though the FOX Twitter page said FOX president Kevin Reilly “will not confirm any specific details about the Glee episode as details are still being worked out,” he did release a statement about the farewell episode. “The third episode will write Finn out of the show. That episode will deal directly with the incidents involved with Cory’s passing and the drug abuse in particular,” said Reilly. However, the president wouldn’t say if his character, Finn, would die from the drug storyline.
Murphy and other cast members “will shoot PSAs talking directly to the audience about drug abuse,” states the company’s Twitter.
All proceeds created by the songs from the tribute will go to a fund started for Cory and charities.
Reilly also didn’t make it clear as to whether the episode will feature never-before-seen scenes or outtakes of Cory, only saying “it’s a possiblilty.”
The show resumes shooting for the new season this week, which both Murphy and Reilly credit Lea Michelle for, “She wanted to go back to work,” Reilly said, “[She’s] an extraordinary human being and pillar of strength.”
Kevin Reilly also confirmed to press that seasons 5 & 6 will be Glee’s last seasons. “I would not anticipate it going beyond two more seasons,” Reilly said. “Look, never say never, but there’s two very clear arcs to get to the end and conclude. If we dicover a new crop of kids and there’s some breakout in life, who knows? But right now we’re just thinking about two more seasons.”
The tribute will be the third episode of the fifth season following a two part Beatles themed.
