If the name Jack Stanley isn’t familiar don’t be surprised, FOX has hired Stanley who has little experience to write the sequel of the 2012 action movie according to Deadline.

When Chronicle was released as a found footage film on a 12 million dollar budget, it went on to be a critic and box office hit earning $126 million and became certified fresh on Rotten Tomatoes with an 85% approval rate.

A sequel was expected based on the success of the film, and Max Landis began work on the sequel, however last year Landis announced his departure from the film on Twitter and Chronicle 2 news went silent. It makes sense that Fox would still pursue a sequel, and hiring a writer is enough progress to give Chronicle fans hope for the film series future.

In the original plan by Landis, lead character Matt, played by Alex Russell, would return as the films protagonist.  With a new screenwriter, it is unknown if the film will be a direct sequel or focus on other characters. Here’s hoping Russell will return in some capacity!

It’s always a risky move when replacing an original writer with someone else; do you think it will pay off?
