Frankie talks being an ‘Underdog’, independent, and more.

Frankie is a force to be reckoned with when it comes to upcoming artists. The 27 year old singer-songwriter just dropped her epic new single, “Underdog”, which tells a personal story that many can relate with, especially if you are on the rise to fame.

“I wrote Underdog originally in 2017 when I was feeling like an underdog in the music industry and struggling to get a win. The song was almost released and then shelved like a lot of things were then with me and other artists like me. I relooked at the song this summer after I became independent and felt its message more than ever. I knew now was the perfect time to release the song.”

” I tweaked the lyrics in the verses to represent more of my current state and created the anthem for myself that I needed to keep me going. I performed the first version of the song at shows and the response then was crazy so i’m so happy its finally out in its new and improved form! Underdog is the start of a group of songs to come. I’ve written so many songs that haven’t been released or fit the theme of my last EP but are still some of my favorite songs ever written! So I wanted to release some back to back and see what kind of life they take on. Underdog kicks off the party.”

Frankie goes on to say that, “I feel like so many people in their life feel like the underdog…like they aren’t heard or validated or no one is betting on them…but what makes them an underdog is that they have the ability to believe in themselves whole heartedly and therefore win. I’ve experienced time and time again being an underdog especially in the industry i’ve chosen to put myself in. Getting your voice heard can be really difficult and finding the right people who believe in you can be even more difficult so i’ve had hard times keeping my head above water for sure but i’ve also had blind faith knowing that this is my destiny since I was 3 so I keep swimming (like Dory haha). I know my time will come and so will the other underdogs of the world. As all of my songs, I write them for me because I need to get it off my chest and then I release them for others in hopes that it helps them. I hope this song becomes an anthem for people to simply just believe. Believe in themselves and believe they can win.

Independent artists are left to do pretty much everything on their own. Wether that is just making music, promoting, etc, the artist is left with all of that, which makes for a lot of stress, but also a nice chance to learn even more about the industry. “My message to other independent artists is to keep putting out music that is 100% honest to them and their vision. Don’t try to sound like anyone else or look like anyone else. Just be you because that will make you stand out and unique because there is only one you which is why those other people you look up to are special as well. Don’t let anyone try to change you or compromise your dream, it will make the finish line be that much more rewarding.”

“I’m always going to stay true to myself. I can’t be anything else- it doesn’t work for me. I’ve learned a lot while being independent. Its hard not having a big machine back you up for sure but its also freeing deciding what single cover and video and singles I want to release and then release them exactly how I pictured. I’ve learned more lessons than ever this year. I’ve learned that the little voice inside of me is still there and loud and proud even when everything around seems to be quiet at times. I’ve become stronger and know my worth. I feel my skin has gotten thicker and I only have me backing me up therefore I really need to believe in myself. And I do. More than ever.”

Frankie’s new single, “Underdog” is available on all major music streaming services.
