Former SNL cast mate, Fred Armisen, will be joining Seth Meyers on Late Night as the show’s bandleader.
Armisen, most notable for his characters on SNL and his eccentric Portlandia, does have a background in music. He used to play drums in the punk-rock band Trenchmouth.
“Fred will curate and lead the band, and continue to run it even when he’s off shooting Portlandia,” tweets Meyers. TV hosts have long chosen great bandleaders to banter with (David Letterman and Paul Shaffer, Conan O’Brien and Max Weinberg) so this choice in sidekick is on point.
With Jimmy Fallon being promoted to the Tonight Show, Meyers will be taking over the 12:35 time slot, with Armisen at the helm of the 8G Band. The show will premiere Monday, Feb. 24.
