It is with a heavy heart we report that James Avery, best known for his role as Uncle Phil in ‘90s sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, has passed away at the age of 65.
Alfonso Ribeiro, Avery’s on-screen son Carlton Banks, tweeted to confirm the news.
I'm deeply saddened to say that James Avery has passed away. He was a second father to me. I will miss him greatly. pic.twitter.com/UrW0EeBFbO

According to TMZ the actor died in an L.A. hospital last night, having recently undergone surgery for an undisclosed illness.
A generation will mourn the loss of such an iconic actor, who also guest starred in That ‘70s Show, That’s So Raven, and most recently Greys Anatomy, and provided voices for many of our favourite characters in the original animated Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Iron Man series’. Our thoughts are with his friends, family and loved ones at this difficult time, especially his wife Barbara.
