The second I saw the trailer for John Mulaney’s upcoming comedy show Mulaney, I automatically got a feeling that we might potentially be seeing the next Seinfeld, a legendary show that has been named the greatest show of all time. It appears as if I am not alone in this, as even the people working on the show see the similarities.

Andy Ackerman, the director and executive producer of Mulaney, said that he finds a lot of similarities between the iconic show and the freshman comedy, pointing out similarities in the chemistry and natural talents of the cast. This statement seems even more impressive when you consider the fact that Ackerman directed 87 of the 180 episodes of Seinfeld, so I am sure he knows what he is talking about.

The show is exciting for any comedy nerd like me. John Mulaney was one of the most influential people on the Saturday Night Live team for years, and he only appeared on screen a few times, as he was serving as head writer along with Seth Meyers. Like Jerry Seinfeld, Mulaney is a writer and small-time stand-up comedian who through pure perseverance and multiple leaps of faith, managed to land his own show. Also in the cast is Nasim Pedrad, who spent five years on SNL. Comedy legend Martin Short is also a part of the cast in his first regular role in a scripted show in decades.

There is no doubt that Mulaney is going to be something special. A talented cast, great writers and a genuine heart, it is bound to be something new and exciting to an already fascination television season.

Mulaney will start airing on Fox this October.
