With the upcoming film adaptations of The Fault in Our Stars, Divergent, and The Maze Runner, it seems like tis the season for our favourite books to hit the big screen. Glee’s own Alex Newell has been added to the latest book-turned-film, Geography Club.

Newell will star in the film based on Brent Hartinger’s of the same name alongside the likes of Marin Hinkle, Meaghan Martin, Cameron Deane Stewart, Allie Gonino, Justin Deely, Nikki Blonsky, Scott Bakula and Ana Gasteyer Michael Huffington and Anthony Bretti will produce the film about a group of kids who start a club that they don’t really expect anyone to join.

The film is LGBT friendly, showcasing people of different genders and sexual orientations. Newell told ETOnline.com that when he read the script he said, ‘Wow, this is going to open a lot of eyes.” He said the film appealed to him because he “wanted to open more eyes about it and show people this is what we go through.”

Newell is already opening many eyes as Wade “Unique” Adams on Glee, but this role will just add more to how he advocates for the LGBT community. The film is out in limited release and will be released via on-demand services on Nov. 15.
