Katy Perry isn’t all about the teenage dream anymore. When “Teenage Dream” was released, it seemed as though she was all cotton candy and rainbows; but a year later, the pop star went through a pretty public divorce and things changed for the her.
The “Roar” singer met the comedian back in 2009 and the two married in 2010. However, after 14 months of marriage, Brand filed for divorce. Perry recently revealed to The Sunday Times that she was “pretty f**ked” afterwards.
Like most people in a relationship gone wrong, she kept to herself and was broken. “I was in bed for about two weeks,” she said. “I was pretty f**ked, yes. It hurt a lot. I got a good knock. Unfortunately, although I had the outward self-identity I didn’t have the inner kind, I hadn’t built that up. My self-worth was in someone else’s hands which is never a good idea, because it can be taken from you at any time. And it was, and it was shattered,” Perry added.
In an interview with Billboard earlier this year, Perry also revealed that she was struggling with thoughts of suicide following the divorce.
But with “Prism” being released soon, you can tell she put all those emotions into recording her album. It inspired her to open up about her failed relationship. She even contemplated calling the album “Adult Reality.” “I had to face the reality that things are not always on cloud nine. I was down and out, I’d lost hope, all of my self-confidence had been shattered.”
Katy Perry may not have found love with Russell Brand, but she is currently in a serious relationship with John Mayer, and they seem to be making some beautiful music together.
