Let’s face it: a lot of the things that get popular today are insane, and can be crazy dangerous as well. For example, while the cinnamon challenge may have gotten a couple of laughs out of YouTube viewers, it was all too easy to choke on the powdery substance. The newest trend, dubbed Beezin’, could also have pretty significant health effects.
Apparently, people have decided that putting a layer of Burt’s Beeslip balm on their eyelids in order to enhance the effects of drug and alcohol use is a good idea. Those who have tried it say that it makes the experience of being under the influence more intense, while others say it simply helps them stay awake and stay alert.
But just because Burt’s Bees is natural doesn’t mean it couldn’t be harmful to your health. Doctors say that it could lead to pink eye symptoms due to allergic reaction. In severe cases, it could cause someone to lose their eyesight or even be life threatening. Medical toxicologist Dr. Kelly Johnson-Arbor stated that, “Cold sores are cause by the herpes virus. If you use the lip balm on the cold sore and your friend borrow the lip balm, puts it on their eyelid, the herpes virus could be transmitted from the lip balm to a person’s eye, and that person could go blind.”
The peppermint oil found in the lip balm can be harmful to your eyelids, so seek out medical assistance if you start to feel any pain in your eyes. Or, you know, only use lip balm on your lips.
