It looks like some process is finally being made on Fox’s highly anticipated Gambit movie!
Good news for fans of everyone’s favorite Cajun X-Men; the Gambit the movie is allegedly slated to begin production! Bad news for those fans is that it won’t begin until spring of next year. This is all according to beloved X-Men producer Simon Kinberg.
Speaking to That Hashtag Show during an interview at the Saturn Awards, the man behind the mutant franchise spoke of the plans for the oft-delayed film.
“We have a great script on that and hope to shoot that movie at the beginning of spring of next year,” Kinsberg said.
Gambit was initially meant to hit cinemas on October 7, 2016; however, Fox chose to pull it off the schedule without releasing a new target opening date or an update on its production schedule, which left fans of the Cajun superhero hanging.
Kinsberg would later explain that it was because that they were looking for just the right script.
“We just didn’t get the script to the place that we all felt like that movie deserved,” he explained last May. “So we’re still working on the script. We’re very close, actually to being done with the script, and the hope is that Channing (Tatum, the actor who has been signed to portray the title character) has a couple of movies he has to shoot, but that we would shoot at the end of this year or the beginning of next year.”
In addition to Tatum, French actress Léa Seydoux, who many will remember for her starring role in Spectre, has signed on to play Bella Donna Boudreaux, Gambit’s first love. It is unclear if she will remain on after the delays since Kinberg did not say anything about her involvement. Frankly all I want to see is Gambit possibly getting involved with his one true love in the comics, Rouge, who was portrayed by Ana Paquin in previous X-men movies.
Reports have also indicated that despite signing on to new films during the delay, Doug Liman still remains attached to direct Gambit.
Let us just hope that there are no more delays.
