You probably know John Oliver from his stint as a correspondent for The Daily Show, but now he has moved on up in the world and is hosting his own show.
Oliver’s new project, Last Week Tonight, premiered on HBO on Saturday. The comedian wasted no time in bringing about controversy as he mentioned the scandal around the owner of the Los Angeles Clippers, Donald Sterling:
“It turned out to be a rough week for unrepentant racists and recording devices,” Oliver said, then went on to say, “Wow, that is genuinely shocking: An 80-year-old man knows about Instagram.”
Other stories that Oliver covered included a major election in India that U.S. networks have ignored and another story out of India that people know Fox News as being “famous for its shouting matches.”
Oliver also had a guest on the show, Gen. Keith Alexander. Alexander is the former director of the National Security Agency. Similar to the gag on The Daily Show, Oliver asked Alexander a series of questions that were quite comical in nature. The responses, however, were less than funny.
You can see the show on HBO each Sunday night starting at 11 p.m., or you can take a look at his first episode to see what you can expect.
