What enterprising young woman wouldn’t want to upload Johnny Depp into their personal computer?

In his directorial debut, Oscar-winning cinematographer Wally Pfister gives us Transcendence, a science fiction thriller starring Johnny Depp as professor Dr. Will Caster, a researcher obsessed with creating a machine that possesses sentience and collective intelligence. As he approaches his goal, Caster becomes enamored with the idea of becoming ‘one’ with the technology, leading his wife and best friend to wonder whether this is a good idea.

Utilizing a script written by Jack Paglen and posted on The Black List (a website where screenwriters can post and review screenplays in the hopes of being discovered), the film is set to feature other stars such as Morgan Freeman, Rebecca Hall, Kate Mara and Paul Bettany. Christopher Nolan and Emma Thomas are also at the helm as executive producers. According to Deadline, Transcendence will mark the first finished product resulting from the partnership between Alcon Entertainment and DMT Entertainment.
