Eighteen-year-old Gracie Gold was a major advantage to Team USA in the ladies’ free skate portion of the team figure skating competition on Sunday.
Gold skated to “The Sleeping Beauty” by Tchaikovsky, wearing a blue sparkly dress.
She scored a career-best international mark of 129.36 and landed all 11 jumps, which led to Team USA winning the bronze medal for the event.
Gold’s score was close behind 15-year-old Russian competitor Yulia Lipnitskaya.
She was highly fascinated with the young rival, calling Lipnitskaya “dynamite.”
USA trailed behind Canada, and Russia took the gold.
Gold is coached by figure skating legend Frank Carroll.
He has also coached three well-known skaters to win the World Figure Championships: Linda Fratianne, Michelle Kwan, and Evan Lysacek.
Carroll felt it was important to impress the international judges so they would see Gold’s talent.
Gold is now preparing for the women’s competition in Austria, which is in nine days.
