Steven Spielberg’s new sci-fi series Extant has welcomed film star Halle Berry to its cast. Berry will play an astronaut who has been in space for a year, and is struggling to connect to her family when she returns home. The 13-part series will be produced by Spielberg, and air on CBS.
The Oscar-winning actress said in a statement, “I’m always on the lookout for amazing roles, and when you see material that contains this strong of auspices, nuance and complexity, it compels me to run toward it no matter the medium,” reports DigitalSpy. She said that for five months she will be able to fully immerse herself in the role, and looks forward to similar ones to come.
About casting Berry, Spielberg said “There’s only one Halle Berry, and we are incredibly honored that she has chosen Extant to expand her illustrious career.” He added that the 47-year-old actress will bring a “deep authenticity” to her role, and that he looks forward to working with her.
