Naked, the debut album by New York City based Israeli duo, Hank & Cupcakes is finally available for public consumption. Naked dropped on iTunes yesterday and it’s infectious, catchy, original, and probably unlike anything that you have in your music collection. Get it. Get it now.
Hank & Cupcakes have been making music since 2008, last August they recorded in Berlin at Hansa Studios where U2, David Bowie, R.E.M, Iggy Pop and many more legends have recorded. They are finally ready to share Naked with the world.
The twelve track album is refreshing and contagious. It’s dance, pop, rock, rap, and a little techno; but it works. It’s hard to believe that this amazing record is the work of a duo. Without question, it sounds like a full band. If you’ve ever been fortunate enough to see these two live, you know that it is a jaw dropping experience.
The vocals are raw and powerful and the beats inspire you to move. Do yourself a favor, don’t judge a book by its cover here. Dance/Techno/Alternative doesn’t sound like your thing? Sample the songs, give it a shot. Stand out tracks include “Fly”, “Ain’t No Love”, “Pleasure is a Drug”, and “Jersey Girl”. Props should also be given to the lovely Kalae Nouveau, who is featured on the final track, “Ain’t No Love (The 83rd Remix)”.
