As all us Fannibals are aware, the finale of season one of NBC’s Hannibal was a real game changer. So where do we go from here? Will’s in jail for Hannibal’s (Mads Mikkelsen) murders, and we know from the show’s Comic Con panel that the third episode of season two will be his trial.

Hugh Dancy recently commented on the direction his character will take in the upcoming season, saying that Will is going to come back stronger and smarter. He’s had “the scales completely removed from his eyes,” and we can bet that he won’t be lying down and just taking it anymore.

Dancy says that his character is ready to really come into his own and take control of his ability – that is to say his extreme empathy and ability to read people. He’s not going to be pushed around by Detective Crawford (Laurence Fishburne); nor will he be manipulated by Hannibal. Will was “at the mercy” of this ability last season, but no more: “Now that those people are away from him and he’s stuck in a cell on his own, he can begin to take control of his environment and start fighting.”

Dancy is also not concerned that his character will be reduced at all, despite the fact that Will Graham does not even appear in Thomas Harris’ later Hannibal Lecter novels. He says: “You could have a show based entirely around Hannibal, but I think it would be tricky – he needs a foil. But if that balance changes a bit in season two, I’m good with that, as well. I think that we’ve set it up for a very different and very interested (sic) trajectory in the second year.”

What are your hopes for Will Graham in season two?
