If the Easter bunny brought this egg, he’s one twisted rabbit. Doctors have reported removing a large tumor with the shape and consistency of a hard-boiled egg from a patient in Washington, D.C.
The official term for this type of tumor is a peritoneal loose body. The benign tumors are made of small pieces of fat that come loose and calcify in the abdominal cavity over time. If the tumors become too large they can interfere with urinary or bowel function and must be surgically removed.
One of the doctors who performed the D.C. procedure stated the specimen from his patient was the largest of its kind documented to date. The mass measured about 3.34 inches at its center and weighed about half a pound. On the off chance that you are curious about how it smelled, the doctor reported that it was odorless when sliced open for analysis.
