It’s no secret that Madonna joined her forces with Avicii on a track called “Rebel Heart” earlier this year. As it seems, the Queen of Pop suffered a leak, as a snippet of the song’s demo has found its way online for our listening pleasure.
From the short clip of “Rebel Heart”, you can tell Madonna is up to something good this time around. The track is a traditional Avicii production, mixing dance-pop with folk guitar-pop influences throughout, something like American Life-era Madge making her way to the modern era. The lyrics include phrases you wouldn’t quite expect to hear the songstress sing, such as “I spent some time as a narcissist” and “All the things I did just to be seen”.
Madonna has been working on her next studio album, the follow-up to 2013’s MDNA, throughout the year. Diplo is her regular collaborator, while plenty of other artists have jumped in for a session with her. Reportedly, the “Hung Up” star is looking to release her forthcoming record sometime next year.
