The Walk of Fame Selection Process
How does a star get a star on the Walk of Fame? It’s not as glamorous as you may think. First, the person must be nominated, and, though anyone can do the nominating, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce makes the final decision. After a star is approved, the nominator must then pay $40,000 to complete the process. (The money goes toward construction and maintenance of the star). Also, the person being honored must agree to accept the honor within two years. So, though the Walk of Fame runs the gamut from Meryl Streep to Mickey Mouse, celebs like George Clooney, Robert Redford, and Julia Roberts do not have stars.
Since plans for the starry strip were introduced in the 1950s, the Hollywood Walk of Fame has grown to be a must-see tourist spot and symbol of Tinseltown. With such a varied and talented group as the 2018 honorees, the Walk of Fame’s iconic status lives on.
