How To Get Away With Murder: 04×01, I’m Going Away

“I’m Going Away” opens with Annalise sending a text to all her “kids” to meet at a restaurant. Could this be a final dinner? Could she be going away?

Season 4 opens with “I’m Going Away,” and we are still in the process of getting away with murder. Only this time, it is Wes’s murder they are still trying to pin. Towards the end of last season, we found out that Laurel is pregnant, that Annalise was on the hook for it, and that Oliver proposed to Connor. This season opens with Annalise sending a text to all her “kids” to meet in a restaurant. In true, HTGAWM form, we have to flash back before we even know really anything about the present.

Our first flashback is to Annalise on a plane. She is heading to her parents house and meets a man on the plane. She calls herself Bonnie though. We get it. Upon arriving to her parents house, her and her sister decided to ask their mother to go look at a facility for people with dementia. Her mother does not like this and gets angry, leaving Annalise angry. While going through her purse, she finds the number of the guy from the plane. She meets him at the hotel and is not there for drinks. After being there for only a couple of minutes, Annalise decides she is making a bad choice and leaves.

Our second flashback is to Laurel and her dad. She is mad at her dad for lying to her about the man that works for him. She also tells him that she is pregnant. Well, was because she tells him that she had an abortion. We feel that this could be a lie. Maybe it is part of the family chess game that they play?

Our third flashback is to Connor and Oliver at a bar. Oliver is still waiting for an answer to the proposal and Connor is sounding like he is against marriage. This can’t be good. During their conversation Connor gets the text from Annalise   Oliver looks a little bummed that he isn’t invited.

The fourth flashback is to Asher and Michaela mattress shopping. Guess they are moving in together. They both receive the text from Annalise. Michaela speculates that it is “the last supper” while Asher thinks this could be a good thing.

And back to Annalise. Her mother wakes her in the middle of the night because she thinks the house in on fire. But it is only her dementia. Annalise cleans her mother up and her mother decides it is best to go look at the facility in the morning. Annalise’s father makes it very apparent that he does not want her to go to a home, let alone pay that much money. He starts to cause a scene about how the bad episodes only come around when Annalise is around.

Cut to Bonnie and Frank are in an office that Frank wants to give to Annalise. Frank is trying to win Annalise back. Bonnie tells him about the dinner. So, she will be there, too.

Annalise and her sister are talking about how their mother should be in the home. Annalise is starting to doubt herself. She is worried about not getting her job back and the fact that the insurance money for her house is being frozen, as a protest from Sam’s sister. Annalise is now trying to do the right thing and asks her mom where she wants to live. Her mother starts to talk about how she is losing it and that she doesn’t want Annalise to lose any more. She wants Annalise to start thinking about losing her, so that she is prepared. All the feels.

As Annalise leaves her family home, we hear that they are starting the proceedings to have her disbarred. Cut to Bonnie and Annalise in court, and Annalise chooses not to lie to the board, but begs for her license claiming she has been sober ever since and that everything in her life had been taken from her.

Finally we are back to present time and everyone has made it to the dinner table. Annalise has won her hearing and she is able to practice law! When passing around drinks, Laurel says she can’t because she decided to have the baby! What? Baby? Thank goodness she was just playing games with her father! Annalise stops the party by writing recommendation letters for each of them to move on to other things. Michaela was right; it was the last supper. Annalise even decides to let Bonnie go, too.

Annalise settles down into an apartment and the rest of the “kids” start reading their letters. Michaela and Asher start to look for other opportunities. Connor does not believe anything in the letter Annalise has written. But, he uses the opportunity to kind of say yes to Oliver. He wants to wait to say yes, until they are in a “good place.” In other news, Laurel is on to her father and is starting to think he killed Wes. Bonnie is also now meeting with the “enemy” Todd Denver. Finally, Annalise is sitting down with her court ordered therapist. Which flash forwards to maybe another murder.

What happened to Laurel’s baby?

Could Laurel’s father be involved? What will happen to the others?

Well, this season is set up to be pretty juicy. We cannot wait to keep watching!
