Hulu has just signed an agreement with BBC Worldwide North America, allowing a very generous amount of their titles to be added to the streaming website.
Instead of selling Hulu, its owners – The Walt Disney Company, 21st Century Fox, and NBC Universal – have decided to invest $750million into the website. Some of the money is going towards adding new content, and boy did Hulu hit the jackpot with BBC’s titles.
Hulu began their rollout of titles this week, and announced these titles on their blog: Torchwood, Sarah Jane Adventures, Life on Mars, Primeval, Robin Hood, Day of the Triffids, Red Dwarf, Survivors, The Fades, and Doctor Who. That’s right – this week will be the premiere of the Science Fiction and Adventure series. Next week will see the premiere of Dramas and Masterpiece Classics (including Sherlock, Luther, and the original House of Cards trilogy), and October 1 will see the premiere of comedies (including Absolutely Fabulous, Blackadder, and A Bit of Fry & Laurie).
More series will be announced and added throughout the year, with over 2,000 episodes of various BBC Worldwide titles to be available to Hulu Plus subscribers.
