Its that time of the year when the networks announce which shows are being renewed or cancelled.
Today NBC made their announcements, with the freshman shows Growing Up Fisher and Believe (from recent Academy Award-winner Alfonso Cuaron) getting the axe, and sophomore series Revolution is also ending. However, the biggest surprise was the cancellation of one of the network’s most beloved shows, Community.
Just having finished its fifth season, Community was not a huge success for the network, mainly due to its more alternative, edgy tone not being broad enough for many viewers. The show encountered much turbulence over the last few years in various ways, including the departure and later return of creator and showrunner Dan Harmon, and the axing of the controversial Chevy Chase from the main cast.
The ratings were never great, but the reviews were and the fandom around the show was absolutely phenomenal, with it gaining a huge cult following.
So, it seems there won’t be six seasons and a movie then…
