Hummelstown police officer Lisa Mearkle has been charged with homicide in the fatal shooting of a motorist that occurred last month.
In February, victim David Kassick was hit by a taser and pushed onto the ground by Mearkle with the taser in one hand and a pistol in the other. Soon after, the female officer shot him twice in the back.
This followed what Mearkle describes as a simple pull-over. Mearkle says that she attempted to pull the 59-year-old for expired inspection and emissions stickers before he sped away.
Captured by a video camera on the taser Dauphin County District Attorney Edward Marsico Jr. said that the video was one piece of the puzzle that led him to charge 36-year-old Mearkle with homicide Tuesday.
