Some months after The Vampire Diaries‘ spin-off, The Originals was announced, feedback from cast members of the original show is beginning to arise.
Ian Somerhalder had something to say about the new show in an interview with

. Although he’s “excited for Julie, and for Joseph and all [his] people”, he admitted he’s a “selfish actor”, and he’s worried about the changes the new show will bring to the original show.
Since some characters will be taking off, like Gilles, Holt and Morgan, the show will have to come up with new characters, and Ian hopes the show gets overcrowded with new people. And not just that, the absence of beloved characters itself may become an issue.
”[…] they’re going to be taking these characters that means so much to our show. I’m insanely happy for everyone, but I’m not thrilled.”
And then again, as Ian says, “Who are the other people who are gonna be coming on the show? Are they gonna be good? Because it’s the CW, and everyone has to be pretty, and there aren’t a lot of pretty people that can act well […] Hopefully they just continue to put great actors in.”
