Five time Olympic Gold Medalists Ian Thorpe has revealed that he is a bit ashamed for not having the courage to come out as gay earlier on in his life.
“I’m a little bit ashamed that I didn’t come out earlier, that I didn’t have the strength to do it,” Thorpe said.
Ian Thorpe also recently spoke about the speculations of a romance between him and Latino superstar, Ricky Martin.
He clarified that there is nothing between them and that they are just good friends. “We’re mates, he is a really good guy,” Thorpe said. He also cited Martin for being a major support for him when he was struggling to come out.
Thorpe has battled depression over the years, and since coming out, he has said that he is now happier than ever.
“I’m relaxed. I’m the same person. I guess I am probably more chilled with everyone.”
