For many she is the quintessential Elphaba. Whenever talk turns to a film adaptation of the Broadway and West End classic, you very rarely talk for more than a second or two before her name pops up as needing to be in it.

Now the original Elphaba, Idina Menzel has thrown her two cents in about the rumoured Wicked film, and I think fans will be pleased with what she has to say.

While doing the press junket for the current Disney hit, Frozen, of which she voices Elsa, Menzel spoke to Digital Spy about her hopes for the film.

“If I could be a part of it in some way that would be great,” Menzel said. “But I already feel like I received, and continue to receive, the gifts from Wicked and how it affects audiences.”

The film is currently in development at Universal Pictures and though not having officially been greenlit to go into production as yet, it is reportedly “a high priority” for the studio. Given the recent success of musicals such as Les Miserables, the 10 year anniversary of the musical and its mass popular appeal, it is surprising that a Wicked film adaptation has not yet come to fruition.
