California based car manufacturer, Tesla Motors, is generally known for producing incredibly safe and fuel efficient electric cars; so when the new Tesla Model S P85D came equipped with an “Insane Mode” button, most people didn’t expect anything insane to actually happen. Fortunately for us, it did.

The P85D, introduced late last year, is Tesla’s first dual motor all wheel drive electric vehicle. Ostensibly, the twin motors are used to help the car handle in bad weather and other inclement driving conditions. A fun side effect of that is incredibly increased acceleration – with “Insane Mode” engaged, the P85D can go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just 3.2 seconds. As a point of reference, that’s the same 0 to 60 time as the 2010 Lamborghini Murcielago.

Tesla Motors CEO recently tweeted a video from YouTube channel, DragTimes, of a compilation of reactions from unaware passengers experiencing “Insane Mode” for the first time.

The dash cam footage shows just how unprepared the average person was for the ridiculous acceleration this electric car is fully capable of, with tremendously amusing (and profanity laden) results. In the words of one passenger, “You’ve gotta give people warning before you do that!”
