Contrary to earlier reports, Sophia Grace Brownlee, who shot to fame after a video of her singing Nicki Minaj’s “Super Bass” went viral in 2011, will no longer be in Disney’s adaptation of Into the Woods. Last month, rumors circulated that the 8-year-old had been cast as Red Riding Hood. She was set to star among an all-star cast including Meryl Streep, Johnny Depp, Emily Blunt, and Chris Pine.
Disney announced yesterday, however, that Broadway star Lilla Crawford will now play the role of Red Riding Hood.
Sophia’s father, Dominic Brownlee addressed the situation via Twitter, confirming that Sophia’s age was the reason for the casting switch. “It was a joint decision between us and the director and producer of Into the Woods to withdraw Sophia Grace from the film,” he said, “After careful consideration we the parents of Sophia Grace felt that as rehearsals progressed that she was too young for this part.”
The film, which began production yesterday, is set to debut Christmas Day, 2014. As for Sophia Grace? Be sure to look out for her on The Ellen Show and other up-and-coming roles.
I have a feeling we’ll be seeing a lot more of this pint-sized princess!
