At a recent New York TimesTalk event, with the Breaking Bad cast and creator Vince Gilligan in attendance, speculation abounded about the upcoming final season of the hit show. In particular, long-time fans of the show are very curious about the fate of the show’s central character, Walter White.
Though the panel was, for the most part, light-hearted, lead actor Bryan Cranston grew serious when talking about what lies ahead for his character.
“I think there’s a good case for [Walt’s death], that maybe that’s a fitful end,” Cranston said grimly. “And yet what if the thing he wanted the most, which was the togetherness of his family – what if he lived and they didn’t? Wouldn’t that be a worse hell to be in? Or maybe he should die,” Cranston backtracked. “I vacillate on this.”
No doubt audiences will wonder the very same thing about Walt until the final episodes of Breaking Bad reveal his fate. You can catch the new season starting August 11th on AMC. For a full video of the New York TimesTalk panel, you can check it out here.
