The new film from director James Cullen Bressack called ‘Survive The Game’ stars Bruce Willis, Chad Michael Murray and Swen Temmel. With the movie playing in select theaters and via on demand services now, and being released on DVD and Blu-Ray next week, PopWrapped caught up with James to find out about how it differs from his past works and his next project that reunited him with two of his ‘Survive’ actors.

What is or was it about “Survive The Game” that made you go: “Yeah, I wanna shoot this”? 

It was a throwback 90s action movie that reminded me of the fun action films I grew up on. And also Bruce Willis was in it. I wanted to work with Bruce.

How would you sum it up in a few words or a sentence? 

Nonstop action, a lot of laughs, a wild ride.

How does the film differ from your past projects? 

This movie is nonstop action from start to finish. We have car chases, massive fights, explosions, you name it – we got it.

What was it like directing, among others, such a big name as Bruce Willis? 

Bruce was great to work with. We joked around together quite a bit. He and I kept a light environment together and I enjoyed that. It was relaxed, friendly and a lot of laughs.

Tell me a little about the filming experience. Any particularly memorable moments you can share?

I had a blast filming this movie. My cast and crew were so wonderful and made every moment memorable. I’m blessed that I got to work with such wonderful humans.

‘Survive The Game’ is coming out at a time when the theatres, like many other venues, are still struggling to get audiences in, with many movies opting, as yours is, to be released in theaters and on demand at the same time. How do you feel about that both as a professional in the industry and a film fan in general? Was this films’ release impacted by the pandemic and how long do you think it might be before movies go back to focusing solely on theater releases? 

I hope things get back to normal soon because as a film fan nothing beats the experience of seeing a movie in the theaters. Growing up the movie theatre was my second home. I love the movies. Nothing beats that experience.

Finally then, with this film out now, have you started thinking about what you might want to work on next yet or are you just enjoying finally getting this movie out to fans? 

The next movie coming out for everyone from me is The Fortress! I’m really excited for everyone to see it. I team up with Bruce Willis and Chad Michael Murray again. It’s a lot of fun and a great mystery action film. I think people will really enjoy it.
