For 54 years, Jane Fonda has been entertaining generations of Americans.
This three-time Golden Globe recipient, Emmy winner and two-time Academy Award-winning actress will be adding another honor to her mantle.
ABC, CBS and The Wrap have reported that Ms. Fonda will be receiving the American Film Institute’s Life Achievement Award.
“Jane Fonda is American film royalty,” AFI chairman Howard Stringer said in a statement. “A bright light first introduced to the world as the daughter of Henry Fonda, the world watched as she found her own voice and forged her own path.”
Ms. Fonda has appeared in classic films such as Klute, Coming Home, Julia and On Golden Pond.
During the 1980s to the mid-1990s, Ms. Fonda also produced over 20 workout videos and returned to the fitness world in 2010, when she started her new fitness series: Jane Fonda’s Prime Time.
Recently, Ms. Fonda has been featured in five episodes of the hit HBO drama The Newsroom as Leona Lansing, the strict owner of Atlantis World Media and will portray Nancy Reagan in Lee Daniels’ The Butler.
Ms. Fonda will be presented the award at an all-star gala tribute on June 5, 2014. The special will later air on both TNT and Turner Classic Movies. Interestingly both channels are owned by Fonda’s ex-husband, Ted Turner
