Jenna Coleman’s new TV role is far from time traveling and aliens!
She stars in BBC One’s three-part period drama Death Comes to Pemberley, based on the novel of the same name by PD James. This novel is a sequel to Jane Austen’s classic Pride and Prejudice set six years after it.
The 27-year-old actress said it was “liberating” to leave Doctor Who behind for this new role.
She said, “It’s been lovely. It’s been very liberating. It’s nice to be able to [explore] a completely different period [and] a lovely role. [Austen’s book is] very rich and when something is as rich as that, you can do lots of adaptations and they can be completely different.”
She continued: “There’s so many places to go with the material and different ways to explore it. You can be influenced by the other pieces but I think this is very much our own take”.
But before we get to see her on this new period drama, Coleman will star in Doctor Who‘s Christmas special “The Time of the Doctor” set to air on Christmas Day. This will mark Matt Smith’s final episode as the Doctor.
“I’m going to be annoying a lot of people come Christmas. But my grandma will be very happy!”
Death Comes to Pemberley begins on December 26th at 8:15 pm on BBC One.
