As excitement raises with the new season of Doctor Who hitting television screens in just a couple of weeks, fans of the BBC show have also been hit with the news that Jenna-Louise Coleman, who has been gracing our screens as companion Clara, may be leaving after the Christmas special this year.

The news, which is only coming from an unnamed source as of yet according to The Mirror, will mean that Coleman will leave after 18 months in the role–one of the longest-running companions in the series’ history.

The source stated that, “The conversations about Jenna’s exit have started, and a plan is in place which is being ironed out. It was very much a mutual decision. It’s important to keep the series moving and fast-paced, and the time is just starting to feel right and the feeling is that it could be a perfect Christmas storyline.”

What do you guys think of this news?

Personally, I don’t think we’ve seen enough of her to feel overly attached, and therefore upset, that she may be leaving. Although she will have been there for a long time, the amount of episodes per series has been a lot shorter, and I think that she has been overshadowed by her storylines.

Hopefully we will see something bigger in the months to come, and Moffatt will pull something impressive out of the bag and make Clara more than a plot-point and into a character who will go down in history with the other great women who have taken on the position.
