Jessica Chastain, who has emerged as one of our brightest and most talented actresses of today, has reportedly been offered the lead role in the second season of the megahit crime show True Detective. However, one shouldn’t get their hopes up as it has been confirmed that Chastain won’t be starring in the show.

The news that Chastain was being considered for a lead role in the show seemed likely, mainly because the first season starred some powerhouse male leads: Matthew McConaughey, whose brilliant work in the show no doubt helped him get extra exposure and gain traction towards his Oscar win in March, and Woody Harrelson. It wasn’t much of a stretch for a film star like Chastain to book the show as well. Creator Nic Pizzolatto also implied a female-led second season, which further fueled the Jessica Chastain casting rumors.

This news comes straight after rumors that superstar Brad Pitt, who is likely to follow-up his Oscar win with an Emmy win for his work producing HBO’s The Normal Heart, is very close to signing a deal to star in the second season of True Detective. There seems to be very little to no truth to this rumor.

Everyone has their opinion as to who should lead the next season (I personally believe it should go to old friends and acting legends Jack Nicholson and Bruce Dern), but until we get a solid piece of casting news, the speculations shall continue.
