Game of Thrones may be more known for its shocking twists, horrific deaths and nudity. But fans of the fantasy series are just as enthralled by the simple conversations that the characters have with each other. Watching them trade barbs and insults, as well as veiled threats, can be as exciting as dragons laying waste to an entire city.
And one of the masters of this craft is none other than Westeros’ resident wealthy alcoholic, Queen Cersei Lannister, played by the talented Lena Headey.
So when Headey made an appearance at Jimmy Kimmel Live last Monday night (June 16), host Jimmy Kimmel actually had the audacity to challenge his guest to a Game of Thrones style of trading insults in a conversation.
“No one drinks a goblet of wine like you do on ‘GoT,’” Kimmel said, bringing out two silver goblets and a decanter full of wine. “I thought it would be fun to talk to each other ‘GoT’ style.”
It was fun alright; for Headey and the audience. For Kimmel, not so much.
The set dimmed their lights to set a dramatic ambience, and immediately Headey transformed into her character. Her body language became more regal, and she eased into Cersei’s posh court accent.
When Kimmel asked if they should pour the wine, Headey promptly told him “Don’t touch it”. Kimmel laughed it off “Oh so we’ve started,” he said, but only received an icy glare in response. Headey then proceeded to pour the wine, all the while giving Kimmel the stare of someone about to crush an infidel beneath her heel. Clutching her goblet, Headey intoned, “That is a lovely tie”, letting her words sink in for a dramatic pause before releasing the snide: “It’s a shame it’s around such a worthless neck.”
