The big news story this week? It’s difficult to argue it would be anything other than the senseless, barbaric murder of Cecil the Lion at Hwange National Park, Zimbabwe at the bloodied hands of American dentist, Walter James Palmer.
Naturally, there has been enormous reaction condemning Palmer’s despicable actions, with celebrities sharing their dismay on social networks. Jimmy Kimmel, however, took it one step further and chose to cover the news on his talk show.
The big question is, why are you shooting a lion in the first place? I mean, I am honestly curious to know why a human being would feel compelled to do that – how is that fun?
Kimmel was naturally angry and seemed to get genuinely upset regarding this story and it comes across in the monologue.
Feeling the emotion coming on strong, Kimmel then wanted to turn this horrible story into something positive and shared the website of the Wildlife Research Conservation Unit at Oxford University so people can learn more about Cecil.
R.I.P. Cecil, you beautiful creature. May your face haunt the dreams of Walter Palmer for the rest of his days.
