Joel McHale is heading for Washington.
The Community star and The Soup host is set to host the 2014 White House Correspondent’s Dinner later this year.
McHale, who is known for his sardonic and bitter sense of humor, will follow in the footsteps of hosts such as Conan O’Brien, Jay Leno, Craig Ferguson and political satire gurus Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert (whose 2006 hosting gig was notable for being scathing and relentless, hurting President Bush’s sense of humor).
The news was broken by Steven Thomma, the head of the White House Correspondents Association, who said: “We’re thrilled that Joel will headline the dinner when we celebrate our centennial. He’s sharp, funny, and just the type of comic who can navigate the unique challenge of our dinner, making fun of Democrats, Republicans and especially the news media. Washington can use a little good-natured ribbing.”
McHale then tweeted: “This is very cool & the website to apply to host it worked perfectly.”
The White House Correspondent’s Dinner will be held on May 3rd.
