John Lee Hancock to Help Reshoot Disney’s Maleficent

Angelina Jolie’s upcoming Disney film Maleficent is set to have some scenes re-shot with the help of John Lee Hancock, who previously worked on Snow White and the Huntsman. According to The Hollywood Reporter, higher-ups at Disney asked for some of the first scenes to be re-shot, although none of these will star Jolie herself.

Maleficent is being made under the supervision of first-time director Robert Stromberg, however despite his previous success as production designer on films such as Avatar and The Wizard of Oz, apparently he still needs some support.

“We asked John Lee Hancock to be on set,” producer Joe Roth explained. “He wrote pages and I hired a first-time director and it’s good to have him on set.”

Roth did jump to Stromberg’s defence, though, because when asked why they had hired such an inexperienced director, he immediately countered that Stromberg had won Oscars for Production Design, which should be a sign that he has plenty of talent.

“The movie is gorgeous to look at and the last 75 minutes are really entertaining,” he added positively. “The issue is the opening, which is being reshot over eight days.”

Experience, after all, isn’t everything, and the fact that Hancock was invited to the set doesn’t have to mean Stromberg didn’t live up to the expectations! To know about that, we’ll have to wait until May 30th 2014, because that is when the film will be released and when we can see Angelina Jolie shining on the big screen once again!
